Four decades.
$2.5 billion developed.
Dozens of Canada’s most recognized retailers.
A portfolio built one project at a time.
PenEquity has successfully developed and divested retail, entertainment, and mixed-use real estate across Ontario; from the GTA’s busiest intersections to regional hubs in Ottawa, Barrie, and Burlington.
Every project reflects the same discipline: source the right land, secure the right tenants, build with long-term value in mind, and hand off assets positioned to generate returns for decades. What follows is a selection of the projects that defined our approach.
Six projects that shaped our platform.
Kanata Centrum
At 1.3 million square feet across three phases, Kanata Centrum is one of the largest retail and entertainment destinations PenEquity has ever delivered. Designed as a regional anchor for Ottawa’s fastest-growing suburb, the project has served as a model for integrated power-centre development in Canada; combining big-box retail, cinema, hospitality, and dining on a single connected site.
10 Dundas St. E
A half-million-square-foot vertical retail and entertainment complex at Yonge-Dundas Square; the highest-traffic intersection in Canada. Delivering a development of this scale in the heart of downtown Toronto required navigating exceptional site constraints, multi-tenant coordination, and urban design standards at a level few retail developers in the country have matched.
North Barrie Crossing, Phase 1
A modern regional crossing built to anchor Barrie’s northern growth corridor. The project brought together grocery, entertainment, fitness, and value retail in a single destination, and was successfully divested shortly after stabilization; demonstrating PenEquity’s ability to develop, tenant, and exit large-format retail on schedule.
Winona Crossing, Phase 1
Anchored by a flagship Costco, Metro, Dollarama, LCBO and Kids & Company. Winona Crossing Phase 1 transformed a gateway site along the QEW into one of the most active regional retail destinations in the Hamilton area. Subsequent phases continue under PenEquity’s management; visible today on our Operating Properties page.
Mississauga Entertainment Centrum
A purpose-built entertainment and dining destination at Hurontario and Courtney Park; one of Mississauga’s most-travelled nodes. Still operating today under PenEquity’s management, the Centrum has anchored the area’s evening economy for over 15 years.
